What surprised me most when the curtain was removed was the shocking display of metal running the length of my shin, complete with six long metal stakes protruding upwards, perpendicular from my leg.
Wow! I wasn’t expecting this!
I saw that a series of foot-long “pins” had been screwed into the main bone of my right leg, in addition to a screw inserted internally.
Since this is a little hard to verbalize, I am including a photo of the X-ray that was taken at the time, which at least shows part of how this looks internally.
Double-clicking the photo at the right offers a closer look at the various breaks on my tibia (or shin bone) and fibula (skinnier bone shown below the tibia), plus shattered portions of the bone.
Hmm, so the “reoccurring dream” I’d imagined wasn’t necessarily a dream at all, as the doctors had indeed been doing a lot of drilling.
