76 In For the Long Haul

After being back in the States for close to a month, I had my second set of X-rays taken. And it came as a discouragement that there was no cloudy formation showing on the new X-rays, indicating that there was no bone growth happening.

When I had originally inquired in Peru, the doctors estimated my leg would take 3-4 months to heal.

Now the local surgeon told me he’d never seen a break as bad as mine heal in less than 9 months.

That was somewhere between surprising and depressing news. But I concluded that I’d sooner have a realistic appraisal rather than an unrealistic one, the latter only offering the potential to generate disappointment when things don’t happen as fast as you expect.

I adjusted my lifestyle accordingly, and among other things I got fully set up to telecommute, hooked up to my office and server via laptop, and phone etc., so I could work from my bed. --Talk about casual Fridays.

Actually I found that I had fewer distractions this way, and that it was easier to stay focused on priorities. In that sense, I was able to concentrate on the most important aspects of my workload, which put me in a position to realize that others could better carry out many of the things that I was doing in the past.

In fact this whole exercise was a blessing in being able to pull back from my work more, rather than being so embroiled in the details, not to speak of realigning my time with the Lord, so I was very thankful.

And hopefully I'll be able to continue to do so voluntarily after my leg is healed!
