45 A Fog of Pain
Meanwhile I was only averaging anywhere between 1 to 4 hours sleep per twenty-four, and those in precious installments.
One evening, the Arias’ had a number of guests over, and getting caught up chatting with different ones, I made the mistake of over-extending my time sitting in the wheelchair.
I awoke at 12:30 a.m. with the now-anticipated stabbing pain in my ankle but what was different was this was only a portion of an all-encompassing fog of pain. I couldn’t even isolate or identify which part of my body was hurting. Everything hurt.
Awaking, it literally took fifteen minutes just to gain my bearings, and then isolate and identify individual pains in my stomach, my ankle, my back, and so forth, not to speak of finally realizing the fact that I also needed to go to the bathroom.
I’d never experienced anything like this before where all of these pains and feelings and sensations were bundled into one giant pain, which lasted through to daybreak.
The following full day I suffered an overwhelming pain in my back, centering on the area where I happen to have a herniated disk.
This coupled with gas pains traversing my whole central area made even my simple daily wash-up an excruciating experience.
To date this had been one of my toughest stretches.
