92 – Glory in My Infirmities

As the 5th month anniversary of my medical captivity nears, I have grown very uptight from basically being in the same room all day and all night for weeks on end. My wife senses my frustration and we drive to the bay for a completely reinvigorating change of scenery.

The Apostle Paul says “in whatever state I will therewith be content” (Philippines 4:11) “In whatsoever state” certainly doesn’t sound like just good circumstances, for example when we are whole and healthy, but also when we are laid up in bed.

On the subject of sickness and health problems, the Apostle Paul also wrote of himself, “Most gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities.” (2 Corinthians 12: 9, 10)
When he fights to retain a glory in his sickness or medical problem, then the power of Christ rests on him. And when we are weak in ourselves we find the Lord’s strength.

Other scriptures that seem to encourage us to have a continual attitude of praising God for whatever circumstances: “Let us offer praise to God continually, our lips giving thanks to His name. I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My tongue shall speak of thy praiseall day long.” (Hebrews 3:15; Psalm 34:1; Psalm35:28)

So it does seem scriptural to thank God even for the “bad” things that happen to us.
